The second day transitions to the vibrant university town of St Andrews. Once the religious centre of Scotland, it now known worldwide as simply, the Home of Golf. Itinerary
DAY 1: You'll be collected from your lodgings at 8.30am and we head for Stirling. Expect tales of bloody battles from the top of Stirling's historic bridge. You cannot understand the Highlands until you understand Stirling Bridge. Afterwards we head for the Highland Boundary Line and immediately you will be surrounded by lochs, glens, waterfalls and mountains. It's a beautiful part of the world. You'll get up close and personal with standing stones, a ruined castle, a weird church, some great food and maybe even a dram or two of whisky to sample. You'll learn of fairy Folklore and clan rivalries and maybe even an ancestral burial ground. There are so many possibilities on this day. You may want to strip off and jump in a loch or wee river or perhaps a steep forest walk to find some rock art that's at least 3000 yrs old. Great chocolate can be found on this day or perhaps a mountain pass with stunning views. Let us know what interests you beforehand or instead just trust your guide to read the room and deliver an outstanding day for you. You'll spend this night in or near the charming Highland town of Pitlochry.
DAY 2: You'll be collected from your lodgings at 9am and head for Abernethy. If it's open we'll visit the 900 yr old round tower before making our way to the home of golf at St Andrews Old Course. You'll get the opportunity to buy a gift from the Pro shop at the Old Course Hotel before walking towards Swilcan Bridge and the 18th hole. The golf museum is just nearby and it's a must for enthusiasts. A good couple of hours can be spent around the Old Course and the museum. Many a wife has left her husband to enjoy this whilst she takes in the little town of St Andrews and all the little shops and eateries that it homes. St Andrews also has an old castle and a ruined cathedral. There is much to learn here and a lot of it can be quite shocking. After lunch we'll drive down the coast to discover a couple of the many interesting historic fishing villages that cling on beside the sea. I hope you like the sea air.
Review
What can I say about Mike and Andrew? Truly the LOVELIEST people. Andrew was great at putting our trip together and getting us set up with Mike, who spent the time with us taking us to some of the most beautiful and obscure historic places far outside of Edinburgh! Mike is such a delight and we had great conversations with him the entire trip— he was super flexible with our needs and interests, and he never pushed us too quickly or forced us to leave a place if we weren’t ready yet. Absolutely loved working with these two and will 10/10 hang out with them again when I come back to Scotland!
